Class of 2019 Fundraiser

Each year, the eighth grade class selects a parting gift to give back to Valley Prep as a way of improving the school and benefiting future students. They work hard all year to raise the funds for this endeavor. This year, the class will be selling See's Candies to aid in their fundraising efforts. See's Candies holiday order forms went home in the students Friday envelopes on Friday, November 8. Additional order forms are available in the VPS office if you need them. See's Candies will make a great gift for everyone on your holiday list. Please turn in your order forms with payment in the envelope provided by Monday, December 3, 2018, to your child’s homeroom teacher or directly to the office. Checks should be made payable to Valley Preparatory School. The candies will be available for distribution during the week of December 10. If you have any questions, please contact room parents Chanda Lowe (951) 206.8681 or Arlin Roman (661) 965.0303. Thank you for supporting the Class of 2019!

Redlands Holiday Parade

We are happy to announce that VPS will once again be participating in the Redlands Holiday Parade! The parade is December 1 at 6:00 p.m. The theme of the parade this year is A Citrus Heritage Christmas. After the Thanksgiving break, we will begin decorating our float for the parade. We invite students to come after school each day from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to help decorate the float.

Members of CJSF will be able to earn service hours for their participation in decorating and walking in the parade. We encourage as many students/families as possible to sign-up to walk in the parade to represent VPS. Each class will have a sign-up sheet for participation in the parade. Look for more details in upcoming Roars and announcements at flag.

Report Card Distribution

The first trimester report cards are now complete, and we will email them to parents in the coming days. Additionally, we will reschedule our honor roll assembly to Monday, November 26 since it’s preferable for the students to have their report cards before we announce the honor roll.

Foreign Students at VPS

As previously mentioned, Valley Prep is developing a partnership with Karle Witte International Academy to facilitate a “culture exchange program dedicated to bringing diversity and forming connections through education". Mr. Schutz, our Assistant Head of School, recently returned from an eight-day recruiting trip to China as part of the Karle Witte delegation. He visited many schools, and made important contacts with local administrators and “agents” as we move forward with this collaboration.

As a result, we expect to have 15 to 20 students visiting Valley Prep from China in late January for one week. Further details about this cultural exchange will be available in December, including the need to have “host families” with whom the visiting children can reside for the week. For more information, please read our November 9, 2018 ROAR newsletter.

Adopt-a-Child Toy Drive

This Christmas, VPS House Council is helping children whose parents can’t afford presents have a wonderful holiday season. VPS is supporting Adopt-a-Child to give Christmas presents to kids who don’t normally receive gifts. Adopt-a-Child is a non-profit organization that helps kids and their parents by being their Santa Claus and delivering presents to them. We ask that you please bring in new, unwrapped gifts in your student’s age group. You can find some suggestions listed below. Gifts are due on November 26. We appreciate all of your support!

PowerSchool Update

We are pleased to announce that first grade through eighth grade parents now have access to PowerSchool to view their child’s grades, attendance, and assignments. Soon, access will be granted (via email) to PS-K parents. We are granting access gradually to ensure we are properly able to manage any issues that may arise.

If you have any questions about PowerSchool, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Black.
